Lasik
LASIK stands for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis
In this procedure surgeon permanently changes the shape of the cornea, the clear covering of the front of the eye, using an excimer laser. A mechanical microkeratome (a blade device) or a laser keratome (a laser device) is used to cut a partial thickness flap in the cornea. A hinge is left at one end of this flap. Pulses from a computer-controlled excimer laser vaporize a portion of the stroma depend on power of your glasses & then the flap is replaced back to it’s normal position.
Pre-requisite for Lasik
- Stable refraction for at least 6months
- Age 18+
- Sufficient corneal thickness
- Healthy & clear cornea
Contra indication for LASIK
- Keratoconus
- Reduced pachymetry
- Corneal dystrophies
- Herpes keratopathy
- Collagen disease
- Pregnancy
- Severe dry eye, Glaucoma, Uveitis, Cataract
- Immunocompromised status
- One eyed patient
TA-LASIK
Standard Laser is similar to buying a suit “off-the-rack”.While in topography assisted Lasik(TA-LASIK),we use software, linked with topography to customized the laser ablation.(“Custom tailored suit”)
Wave-front guided LASIK
There are six order spherical aberrations in human eye.1st and 2nd order spherical aberration is related to spherical and cylindrical refractive error which can be removed by standard/Ta-Lasik.However,3rd.4th,5th & 6th order aberration(Coma, Twifoil) can be corrected only by wave front guided Lasik. This improves contrast sensitivity & night vision.(A gate way for SUPRA-NORMAL VISION)
FEMTO LASIK
In femto Lasik ,instead of mechanical microkerato-tome, Femto LDV will make the corneal flap.ee surgery & by opting Rest of the procedure is same ,that of Lasik. It is called blade free surgery & by opting that one can avoid all blade related complication of Lasik.
